MTBYLA Code of Conduct

The Manheim Township Boys Youth Lacrosse Association (MTBYLA) is dedicated to fostering a positive, respectful, and sportsmanlike environment for all players, coaches, spectators, and officials. This Code of Conduct outlines expectations for behavior to ensure a safe, inclusive, and enjoyable experience during all MTBYLA practices, games, and events. All participants are expected to embody the principles of honor, hustle, and humility.

Players’ Code of Conduct

1.  Honor the Game: Treat teammates, opponents, coaches, officials, and spectators with respect, regardless of race, gender, ability, or background. Taunting, bullying, or using derogatory language will not be tolerated.

2.  Hustle with Purpose: Show dedication by attending practices and games, giving maximum effort, and striving to improve skills and teamwork. Follow the rules of lacrosse as set by USA Lacrosse and MTBYLA, avoiding unsportsmanlike conduct like arguing with officials or using excessive force.

3.  Humility in Action: Accept victories and losses graciously, shaking hands with opponents after every game and acknowledging their efforts. Support teammates and listen to coaches with a positive attitude.

4.  Safety and Responsibility: Prioritize safety by using proper equipment, playing within the rules, and avoiding reckless or dangerous behavior. Refrain from using or possessing alcohol, tobacco, drugs, or prohibited substances at any MTBYLA event.

5.  Respect for Community: Treat all facilities, equipment, and property with care, leaving fields and venues clean and undamaged.

Spectators’ Code of Conduct

1.  Honor the Game: Cheer for players in a positive, encouraging manner, avoiding negative comments, jeering, or booing directed at players, coaches, or officials. Show respect for all, regardless of race, gender, ability, or background.

2.  Hustle in Support: Support the team by respecting officials’ decisions. Address concerns through proper channels, such as the MTBYLA board, rather than engaging in confrontations during events.

3.  Humility in Presence: Refrain from coaching from the sidelines, leaving instruction to coaches. Avoid openly disputing or challenging officials’ decisions to maintain a positive environment.

4.  Safe and Respectful Environment: Refrain from behaviors that endanger others, including physical altercations, abusive language, or disruptive actions. Do not use or possess alcohol, tobacco, drugs, or prohibited substances at MTBYLA events.

Enforcement and Consequences

•  Board Review: Every breach of this Code of Conduct will trigger a mandatory review by the MTBYLA board. Violations may include, but are not limited to, unsportsmanlike conduct, verbal or physical abuse, bullying, or disregard for safety rules.

•  Range of Repercussions: Depending on the severity of the violation, consequences may range from a verbal warning to a one-game suspension, multiple-game suspension, or expulsion from the program. The board’s decision is final.

•  Escalation for Repeat Offenders: Repeat violations will result in escalated repercussions. For example, a second offense may lead to a longer suspension, and a third offense may result in expulsion from the MTBYLA program without refund.

•  Serious Infractions: Actions such as fighting, using offensive language, or disrespect of officials, players, or coaches resulting in disruption of a game or practice session may result in immediate suspension or expulsion from the program for the season with or without refund, and potentially permanent expulsion.

•  Reporting Process: Violations should be reported promptly to a coach or board member. Anonymous reports may be submitted via the MTBYLA website or designated reporting channels.

Commitment to the Code

By participating in or attending MTBYLA events, all players, parents, and spectators pledge to uphold this Code of Conduct, reflecting the values of honor, hustle, and humility. Failure to comply undermines the integrity of the program and may result in disciplinary action to protect the well-being of its members.

This Code of Conduct ensures that the Manheim Township Boys Youth Lacrosse Association remains a positive, inclusive, and competitive environment, fostering the growth of young athletes.
